Hi Vis Vests
Pupils shone brighter than the Christmas decorations at Wedmore First School when 200 of them were given free hi-visibility vests.

Local collections plus a £146 donation from a quiz evening at the New Inn pub helped buy the vests.
Tom Day, of Isle of Wedmore Construction Ltd, provided more than 80 vests and paid extra to have his company logo put on the back, along with Wessex Body Works who bought 10.
The idea for the vests came after Blakeway schoolboy Elliot Davies was killed by a car while waiting for a school bus in January.

The Village Hall had been beautifully decorated and looked so cosy and Christmassy, it was very inviting. A very big thank you to Bill & Kathy Woodroffe, Vanessa & Carl Becker-Hughes and Graham & Lynn Dandy for organising an excellent evening. See you all, same time next Christmas? What do you think? Phil Butterworth & Vanessa Becker-Hughes have got together to raise funds to buy high visibility ("hi-vis") tabards for children attending Wedmore First School. To do this they need to raise a considerable sum. Can you help them meet this target? We're all aware of recent events where children and other road users have been injured by passing vehicles, even more tragically with the death of 13 year old Elliot Davies after he had been hit by a car on the Blakeway road last year. We all want to minimise the risk for all schoolchildren at Wedmore First School when walking or cycling on our local roads.so, Phil & Vanessa ask you to help! Phil & VanessaTheale Oil Group BBC InterviewVanessa Becker-Hughes was interviewed on BBC Radio Somerset's "Andy Burrows Breakfast Show" on Friday morning 9th October. She explained how Theale Oil Group worked and how much similar groups could save (as well as being asked embarassing questions about spanners....listen to the interview to see what we mean ! ). She made the point that similar schemes, linked to Theale's, could be operated to save even more money for households across our area, though it would need more people to administer the scheme. Of course another major environmental benefit is that it means fewer tanker journeys in our narrow country lanes. You can hear the full interview on BBC Listen Again (you'll need to wind forward to 1 hour 44 minutes into the show to hear Vanessa's interview). |
