Rosemary Fisher farewellRosemary Fisher of Briar Hill House said goodbye to friends from the village at a special reception at Pill Ham Farm on Friday 25th September. She's moving to a new apartment in Henley on Thames but everyone in the village wanted to say goodbye to her and thank her support for the village and for all the happy memories over the years that she and her husband Moorton had gained. Rosemary is a past President of Theale Flower Show and she had invited the 3 former Presidents to join her. Rosemary said "I have been so happy here, but I'm looking forward to living in a smaller property in Henley on Thames. Thank you so much to everyone in the village for making my time here so wonderful".
Of the many anecdotes told at the reception, it's not widely known that in 1943 Rosemary was posted to Bletchley Park, the Second World War top secret code breaking organisation. She was an 18 year old WRNS officer working on the then top-secret ENIGMA German code breaking project. It was so secret she never told her husband Moorton about her wartime role until the Bletchley Park story was officially de-classified from being top-secret in the 1970's ! We all wish her a comfortable retirement in Henley on Thames. Rosemary has extended an open invitation to anyone in Theale or Wedmore to visit her if they are in the area. If you haven't had a change of address card, contact us and we'll make sure you get her new address details. Theale Flower ShowThe first Saturday of September 2009 was infinitely better than the same date last year! Two days of strong winds significantly dried the Show Field, although also deterred early gazebo erection, and allowed the army of volunteers to erect and prepare the marquees and arenas for Show Day. A brief, torrential down-pour the night before was a little worrying, in light of last years experience when the Show was nearly washed out, but Show Day dawned bright and sunny and the field entrance, although a little “greasy”, was easily manageable with just the lightest sprinkling of straw. Lou Rossiter Photos
Last Updated (Friday, 25 September 2009 09:06) Lou RossiterThe Last PostWell, not really! Lou Rossiter, Theale's "postie" for the last 23 years has moved on from the Post Office but we couldn't let the occasion pass without commemorating all her help over the years. The villagers of Theale gave generously for a leaving present to her, presented by Mary Clark, at the "leaving do" held at The Sheppey at Godney on Saturday 23rd May and a great time was had by all!
Thanks for all your help Lou, and best of luck for the future! More photos here Photos courtesy of Hilary Stirling Last Updated (Friday, 25 September 2009 09:07) |
